He is the author and artist of the award-winning middle-grade graphic novel series Red Panda & Moon Bear, and the chapter book graphic novel series, Super Magic Boy. His books have been named to the New York Public Library and Chicago Public Library best books of the year lists and the Texas Library Association’s Little Maverick Reading List. He received his Masters in painting and drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and his BFA from Ringling College of Art and Design. Hawkins has been making movies with Sony Animation since 2004, where he has acted as the Head of Animation on the majority of the Hotel Transylvania franchise, as well as associate producing the fourth installment. His other credits include the "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" films, "Open Season," the academy award nominated "Surf's Up," and the Sony/Aardman collaboration "Arthur Christmas." There might also be a Smurfs movie in there somewhere. For his contributions Alan has been nominated for an Annie Award, won a VES award, and is a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
